A rebranded Combate Global set for April 9th return

Combate Americas is no more as the leading Hispanic mixed martial arts promotion has been rebranded Combate Global ahead of their return this Friday, April 9th at Univision Studios in Miami, Florida.

This rebranding comes as the promotion aims to expand to a more international position with the addition of athletes from territories outside of Latin America and the United States. The returns also marks the first event for Combate Global in their newly signed five-year broadcast deal with partner Univision, the United States' largest provider of Spanish-language content.

It has been fourteen months since we last saw the promotion. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic their remaining entire 2020 schedule was cancelled. In the twelve months prior to the pandemic the promotion staged a whopping twenty-six events and their new deal with Univision is said to be thirty events per year (per MMAJunkie).

As the world slowly opens, their return is a welcome addition to the worldwide MMA market and this Friday we will see Combate Global crown their inaugural flyweight champion as Edgar Chairez faces Mefi Monterroso.
